These terms apply to your use of the ChoreButton app and related services. By downloading, accessing or using ChoreButton, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Who we are
ChoreButton is operated by William Fox, trading as ChoreButton (“we”, “us” or “our”). For questions about these terms, contact [email protected].
Where these terms apply
ChoreButton is currently offered to consumers in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. These terms apply alongside any mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies a right, guarantee, remedy or liability where doing so would be unlawful.
What ChoreButton does
ChoreButton helps families organise chores, rewards, allowances and household responsibilities. It allows family information to be shared across devices and may require an active Google Play subscription for certain features.
ChoreButton records information entered by users. It cannot independently verify that a chore was completed, that a reward was earned or that a payment or allowance was made.
Parents and children
An adult parent or guardian must create and manage a family and supervise children’s use of ChoreButton. Parents and guardians are responsible for deciding how chores, approvals, rewards, points and allowances are used in their household.
Parents and guardians are responsible for information entered about children and should use nicknames where practical. Children should use the app only with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian.
Accounts, sign-in and family access
Some features require Google Sign-In or another authentication method made available in the app. You must provide accurate information, use an account you are authorised to use and keep access to your account and device secure.
Family members may join or connect devices using a family code. Anyone who obtains a valid code may be able to request or gain access to the associated family, depending on the controls available in the app. Family owners and parents are responsible for sharing codes only with people they trust and for managing member access and roles.
You are responsible for protecting access to your device, Google account, parent PIN and family code, and for activity carried out by people you authorise to use them. Contact us promptly if you believe access has been compromised.
Rewards and money records
Balances, allowances, rewards or amounts shown in ChoreButton are household records entered by users or calculated by the app. They are not money held, safeguarded, transferred or owed by ChoreButton. ChoreButton is not a bank, payment provider or financial institution. Any real-world payment or allowance is arranged between family members and remains the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
Subscriptions, free trials and cancellation
Subscriptions are purchased through Google Play. The price and currency shown to you, billing period, renewal terms, taxes and any free-trial offer are displayed by Google Play before you confirm a purchase. Offers and prices may vary by country or account.
The current ChoreButton plans include monthly and annual auto-renewing subscription options. Where offered, the introductory free trial lasts 30 days. Unless you cancel before the trial or current billing period ends, Google Play may automatically charge the price shown at purchase for the next billing period.
You can manage or cancel a subscription through your Google Play subscription settings. Deleting ChoreButton, leaving a family, deleting app data or stopping use of the service does not itself cancel a subscription.
Google Play processes subscription payments, and we do not receive or store your payment-card number. Google Play rules may affect purchase processing, trial eligibility and how a Google Play refund request is submitted. However, nothing in these terms removes any mandatory refund, repair, repeat-performance, cancellation or other remedy you may have against us under the consumer law that applies to you.
A subscription entitlement may be shared with authorised members of the same ChoreButton family. Access may depend on the family’s subscription status, membership and role. Contact us if you believe ChoreButton is displaying an incorrect entitlement.
Bluetooth features
If you use ChoreButton with a compatible Bluetooth device, you are responsible for having a compatible device and enabling the necessary permissions. Bluetooth availability and performance depend on your device and environment. Unless expressly stated at purchase, third-party Bluetooth hardware is not supplied by ChoreButton.
Your responsibilities
You agree not to:
- use ChoreButton unlawfully or in a way that harms another person;
- attempt to access another family’s data or account without permission;
- share a family code with anyone who should not have access;
- interfere with, disrupt, overload or compromise the app or its services;
- upload or enter unlawful, abusive, harmful or rights-infringing content;
- use automated means to scrape or extract information from the service; or
- reverse engineer, copy, modify or redistribute the app except to the extent the law does not allow that restriction.
Your content
You retain any rights you have in names, chores, rewards and other information you enter into ChoreButton. You give us permission to host, process, copy and transmit that information only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure and improve ChoreButton and provide the service to your family, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to enter and share the information you add to ChoreButton.
Privacy and data
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information. Please review it before using ChoreButton.
Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep ChoreButton available and working, but availability may be affected by maintenance, updates, internet connectivity, device compatibility, Google Play, Firebase or events outside our reasonable control. We may update, change, suspend or discontinue features where reasonably necessary.
If a change materially reduces a paid service, we will act reasonably and will provide any remedy required by applicable consumer law. We do not exclude responsibilities that the law requires us to meet.
Suspension or termination
We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or family data, or where we reasonably believe these terms have been seriously or repeatedly breached. Where appropriate and reasonably practicable, we will explain the reason and give you an opportunity to address the issue.
You may stop using ChoreButton at any time. Stopping use, deleting the app or deleting family data does not automatically cancel a Google Play subscription. Subscription cancellation must be completed through Google Play.
Intellectual property
We or our licensors own ChoreButton, including its branding, design and software. We give you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for private household purposes in accordance with these terms and applicable app-store rules. No other rights are granted except those provided by law.
Consumer guarantees, disclaimers and liability
ChoreButton is a household organisation tool. It is not a substitute for parental supervision, financial advice, medical advice or other professional advice. You remain responsible for household decisions and for checking user-entered records.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, breach of mandatory consumer guarantees, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Subject to those mandatory rights, we are not responsible for loss caused by inaccurate information entered by users, unauthorised sharing of a family code, misuse by a person with authorised device access, or interruptions outside our reasonable control. We are not responsible for business losses because ChoreButton is supplied for private household use.
For Australian consumers, our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For New Zealand consumers, nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or Fair Trading Act 1986. For UK consumers, nothing in these terms limits rights relating to digital content or services that cannot be excluded under applicable UK consumer law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to ChoreButton, the law, security requirements or our business. The “Last updated” date shows when the latest version was published. If a change materially affects your use of ChoreButton, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention before or when the change takes effect. Changes will not retrospectively remove accrued mandatory consumer rights.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. However, this choice does not deprive you of mandatory consumer protections available under the law of the country where you live.
If you live in the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand, you may bring a claim in any court or tribunal that has jurisdiction under the consumer and procedural law applicable to you. Nothing in these terms requires you to bring a consumer claim only in England and Wales.
Please contact us first so we have an opportunity to resolve a concern informally. This does not prevent you from using any regulator, court, tribunal, dispute-resolution process or other remedy available under applicable law.
